The competition provides civil engineering students with a practical, hands-on application of the principles they learn in the classroom, along with leadership and project management skills. The 22 teams that qualified for this year's National Concrete Canoe Competition, representing some of the top engineering schools in the United States and Canada, will be judged on the design, construction, innovative features, and racing ability of each concrete canoe. The 54-hour event took place February 24-26 at the University of Southern Indiana College of Business. Startup Weekend brought together developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and startup enthusiasts to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups. On Friday night, nearly 40 ideas were pitched, and 10 were selected as finalists. More than 70 participants formed 10 teams that worked through the weekend to develop their projects and products and to come up with a five-minute presentation that would wow a panel of local executives.
