UE Alumna Gives Over $300,000 to Establish Endowed Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students

Evansville, Ind. (06/05/2024) — The University of Evansville (UE) is deeply grateful for the life and legacy of alumna, Maureen T. Fitzgerald '63, whose generous gift of $339,000 will carry on her kindness for years to come.

"Maureen Fitzgerald's unwavering commitment to aid those in need, particularly adult learners pursuing their academic dreams, was truly a testament to her remarkable character," said Abigail Werling, Vice President for University Advancement.

The Fitzgerald Endowed Scholarship fund will annually award a $10,000 scholarship to a deserving non-traditional student, promoting accessibility to quality education for these learners.

As a 1963 graduate of Evansville College, Ms. Fitzgerald started her education at Memorial High School in Evansville and would later continue to study sociology and psychology at UE. Her experiences and studies fostered within her a spirit of service, led to a life dedicated to social services and criminal justice.

"The financial burden of pursuing higher education is often a barrier for adult learners," said Cindy Felts, Senior Director of the Center for the Advancement of Learning. "This generous donation will help reduce this obstacle, allowing more non-traditional students to achieve their educational goals while balancing work and family commitments."

The University of Evansville is a private, comprehensive university located in the southwestern region of Indiana. Established in 1854, UE is recognized across the globe for its rich tradition of innovative, academic excellence and vibrant campus community of changemakers.

Home of the Purple Aces, UE offers over 75 majors, 17 Division I sports, and a unique study abroad experience at Harlaxton, the University's very own Victorian manor located in the countryside of England. For more information, please visit evansville.edu.
