Art Exhibit "Reflections" on Display at UE's Peterson Gallery

Evansville, IN (11/02/2022) — "Reflections," an exhibit by Michael Warrick, is currently on display at the University of Evansville's Melvin Peterson Gallery. The public can stop by during gallery hours now through December 10 and view Warrick's sculptures.

The Melvin Peterson Gallery, located on the corner of Lincoln and South Weinbach Avenues, is open from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday; and from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

A public reception for Michael Warrick will be held on Thursday, November 17, at 6:30 p.m. The reception will be held in the Melvin Peterson Gallery, and the public is invited to attend. The exhibit and reception are part of the Emerging Contemporary Artist Lecture Series, sponsored by the Efroymson Family Fund and the UE Department of Art.

At the age of 16, Warrick made his first sculpture at a two-week art camp. From there, he studied ceramics at Illinois State University and began building kilns and furnaces for firing clay and bronze work. Warrick then continued his studies at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he received a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture and ceramics. His career has spanned more than three decades in higher education as a professor of sculpture and ceramics. His exhibition record includes more than 40 solo exhibits and over 170 competitive and invitational exhibits.

Warrick considers his artwork both "spiritual and dark in nature." They are expressive in the way they explore themes of transformation, identity, death, and memory. He uses a variety of materials (e.g. wood, gold leaf, cor-ten steel) and techniques (e.g. wood-fired kiln clay, bronze casting, welded fabrication) to express turning points in life.
