UE to Host Regional We the People Constitution Competition for Area Students
Six student teams will compete in simulated congressional hearings focused on the U.S. Constitution
Evansville, Ind. (11/04/2026) — What would happen if high school and middle school students were asked to defend their understanding of the U.S. Constitution before a panel of judges? Six student teams will have that opportunity Thursday, November 5, at the University of Evansville (UE) during the regional We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition.
The event will bring four high school teams and two middle school teams to UE's main campus to demonstrate their knowledge of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the foundations of American democracy. Students will participate in simulated congressional hearings, responding to questions from judges on constitutional principles and issues.
The We The People competition is part of a national civic education program designed to help students develop a deeper understanding of the nation's founding documents and the institutions of American government. Through the hearings, students must demonstrate not only what they know, but also their ability to explain and defend their positions on important constitutional questions.
Winning teams from the regional competition will advance to the state competition, where they will have the opportunity to qualify for the national competition. UE's Center for Innovation & Change is hosting the event in partnership with the Indiana Bar Foundation, working together to provide students with an opportunity to engage in meaningful civic learning and put their classroom knowledge into practice.
The competition will take place from 9:20 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. in the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration. An awards ceremony will follow from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Eykamp Hall, Ridgway University Center.
