UE Announces Updated COVID-19 Guidelines for Campus

Evansville, IN (05/28/2021) — Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced updated COVID-19 guidelines on May 13, along with updates from the State of Indiana, Vanderburgh County, and the City of Evansville, the University of Evansville (UE) Coronavirus Healthcare Task Force has been evaluating an updated policy for the campus community.

Beginning immediately, fully vaccinated people will not be required to wear masks on campus or practice social distancing, including indoor and outdoor spaces. There are no capacity restrictions in outdoor venues and indoor venues are currently limited to 50%. Those who have been fully vaccinated are encouraged to continue wearing masks if they are more comfortable doing so.

Individuals who have not been vaccinated or have not yet achieved two weeks since the second dose of Pfizer/Moderna or the single dose of Johnson & Johnson are not considered vaccinated under CDC guidance and should still wear a mask while on campus and maintain a distance of at least six feet from others whenever possible.

Individual events or programs held on campus may continue to implement additional safety protocols according to their specific safety needs.

UE encourages anyone age 12 or older who has not received the COVID-19 vaccine to schedule a vaccine appointment.

"As a doctor, I know no corners were cut in developing this vaccine - just bureaucratic red tape - so all Hoosiers could receive the safest and most effective vaccine possible. I encourage University of Evansville students to talk to their doctors and get the COVID-19 vaccine that works best for them."

The Coronavirus Healthcare Task Force continues to meet on a routine basis to evaluate plans for the Fall 2021 semester. A decision on a vaccine requirement and/or a negative COVID-19 test with random testing for those not vaccinated has not yet been determined. UE will continue to provide periodic updates.
