Tyler Dobbs Places in Evansville Startup Weekend Competition

2012 Mar 5

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that Tyler Dobbs of Fairfield, IL, was a member of a winning team in the inaugural Evansville Startup Weekend competition.

The 54-hour event took place February 24-26 at the University of Southern Indiana College of Business. Startup Weekend brought together developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and startup enthusiasts to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups.

On Friday night, nearly 40 ideas were pitched, and 10 were selected as finalists. More than 70 participants formed 10 teams that worked through the weekend to develop their projects and products and to come up with a five-minute presentation that would wow a panel of local executives.

Dobbs, who is majoring in Accounting, was a member of the second-place team, ICUC, which developed a business model that provides eye care diagnosis and treatment for patients in third-world countries.

"What's perhaps most impressive about Tyler's accomplishment is that this competition wasn't limited to students," said Joe Trendowski, UE assistant professor of management, who served as a judge for the event. "Young professionals and experienced professionals were also involved, so Tyler competed directly with people who have much more experience. I'm incredibly proud of the five UE students who placed in the competition, including Tyler, for their hard work and fantastic performance."
