Miranda Amey of Aurora Honored in University of Evansville Juried Art Exhibition

2013 Mar 19

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that artwork by Aurora resident Miranda Amey was honored Monday night at the opening reception and awards presentation for the 51st annual Student Art Exhibition at UE's Melvin Peterson Gallery.

Amey, a graduate of Aurora High School who is majoring in Archaeology and Art, received the Gumberts' Award for a junior or senior art major. A committee of three campus and community members selects the recipient based upon quality of work, consistency of work, and academic excellence.

"I'm thrilled to recognize students such as Miranda Amey for their talent, creativity, accomplishments, and dedication to their craft," said Stephanie Frasier, chair of the Department of Art and associate professor of art. "This year's exhibition showcases a strong, diverse body of work, and Miranda and other students have clearly exceeded their project challenges by developing effective personal ideas and concepts through solid technical skills."

The juror for the exhibition was Joe Smith, who teaches ceramics at Oakland City University in Oakland City, Indiana. "I was very impressed with the quality of work submitted to this show," Smith said. "Much of my enjoyment was in seeing the degree to which artists such as Miranda Amey have mastered their media. That has come from long hours of practice, concentration, and observation. All of that work has paid off."

The 51st annual Student Art Exhibition will remain on display through Friday, April 5. The Melvin Peterson Gallery is open noon-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Admission is free and open to the public.

The University of Evansville is a private, liberal arts-based university with a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2,400.
