2011 Aug 31

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that Atlanta native Mary Pugh, a graduate of Sheridan High School, is spending the Fall 2011 semester studying abroad in Managua, Nicaragua. Pugh, who is majoring in Spanish, is currently studying at Universidad Nacional Aut坦noma de Nicaragua in a program run by the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). She was awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for her semester abroad.

"At the University of Evansville, we're committed to providing students such as Mary Pugh with life-transforming educational experiences abroad," said Earl Kirk, director of study abroad at the University of Evansville. "By spending a semester in Nicaragua, Mary will gain cultural awareness, unforgettable memories, and a truly global education."

The University of Evansville is a recognized leader in study abroad. In its 2010 Open Doors report, the Institute of International Education ranked UE ninth in the nation for study abroad participation among master's-granting institutions. Approximately half of UE graduates study abroad during their college careers, and Pugh is one of 96 students abroad for the Fall 2011 semester.
