De Yonte Jenkins of Portland Named University of Evansville Orientation Leader

2013 Feb 11

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that De Yonte Jenkins of Portland, TN, has been named an orientation leader (OL) for the 2013-14 academic year. Jenkins, a graduate of Portland Senior High School, is majoring in Theatre.

In this volunteer position, Jenkins will guide new UE students through the transition into college. OLs' chief responsibility is to coordinate Welcome Week, a program designed to make students' first week at the University exciting, fun, and informative.

During Welcome Week, each OL leads a small group of freshmen in games, team-building sessions, service projects, and other activities. OLs often maintain close relationships with the students in their small groups and continue to serve as mentors long after Welcome Week.

"Orientation Leaders are some of the most visible, highly regarded student leaders on the University of Evansville campus," said Dana Clayton, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. "OLs are selected for their energy, enthusiasm, campus involvement, and commitment to serving others. As an OL, De Yonte is sure to make a lasting impact on the lives of many students."

The University of Evansville is a private, liberal arts-based university with a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2,400. UE's diverse student body represents 42 states and 46 countries.

U.S. News & World Report recognizes UE as a top 10 master's-granting university in the Midwest, and third in the region for "Great Schools, Great Prices." For more information, please visit http://www.evansville.edu.
