Clara Wallace of Springfield to Perform at Carnegie Hall

2011 May 20

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that Clara Wallace of Springfield, OH, will perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall on Saturday, May 28 with a combined choir of more than 150 singers.

University of Evansville Director of Choral Activities Dennis Malfatti was specifically invited by concert producer Mid-America Productions to serve as a guest conductor at Carnegie for the Spring-Summer 2011 season.

Of the seven choirs performing Haydn's Mass in the Time of War under Malfatti's direction, three are from Evansville: the University of Evansville University Choir, members of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus, and the University of Southern Indiana Chamber Singers. Additional choirs will travel from from Kentucky, New York, and California.

University of Evansville students including Wallace, who is majoring in Music, will depart for New York on Tuesday, May 24. The singers from all seven choirs, ranging in age from high school through adult, will congregate in New York for two days of intense rehearsal with Malfatti leading up to the dress rehearsal and performance on Saturday. The UE group will return to Evansville the following Monday.

"Singing at Carnegie Hall, the nation's premier classical music performance space, is at once a great honor and a responsibility," said Malfatti, an assistant professor of music at the University of Evansville. "Students such as Clara Wallace have committed tremendous time and effort to this performance, and they should be deeply proud of their accomplishment."
