Kyle Singer of Webster Groves to Study in Japan and South Korea

2012 Jun 19

University of Evansville student Kyle Singer, a resident of Webster Groves, MO, will study abroad for five weeks this summer in South Korea and Japan.

Singer, who is majoring in Computer Science, is enrolled in the UE summer course "Focus on Asia." Associate professor of political science Young-Choul Kim will lead the program, which runs from June 22-July 26.

The course will begin in Tokyo, Japan, where students will visit sites related to international business and economic development: Akiabara Electronic Town (the world's largest shopping area for electronics and computers), Tsukiji Fish Market (the largest fish market in the world), and Sony (a leading manufacturer of electronics). They will also visit historic sites such as the Imperial Palace and the Meiji Shrine.

Students will then fly to Seoul, South Korea to attend courses on Korean politics, history, business, language, and culture at Ewha Womans University. Classes run Monday through Thursday, and every weekend, program coordinators will accompany the students on exciting field trips to places that showcase the tradition and culture of contemporary Korea - such as Korean Folk Village, Demilitarized Zone, the House of Sharing, Everland Resort, and the Boryeong Mud Festival.

Through traditional classroom lectures and experiential learning, students will return to the United States with the knowledge, skills, and understanding related to Asia that will help them succeed in the 21st century global environment.
