Hilary Waltz of Huntingburg Presents Oral History Project on England's Harlaxton College

2011 Oct 31

The University of Evansville is proud to announce that Hilary Waltz of Huntingburg, a Jasper High School graduate who is majoring in History and Art History, recently held a public presentation titled "An Oral History of Harlaxton College." Waltz's presentation took place on October 27 in Harkness Hall in UE's Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building.

During the Spring 2011 semester, Waltz studied abroad at Harlaxton College, the British campus of the University of Evansville. In addition to studying and traveling, Waltz worked with fellow UE student Michael Koletsos of Rosemont, Illinois, to conduct 12 interviews with Harlaxton's founders, supporters, and early students. They shared a summary of their work at the October 27 public presentation.

Harlaxton College, housed in a 120-room Victorian manor in Grantham, England, has served as the University of Evansville's British campus since 1971. Students from all majors enroll in an interdisciplinary core course, The British Experience, while choosing from a range of liberal arts and pre-professional classes.

Optional weekend trips to destinations such as London, Paris, Ireland, Wales, and the Lake District in northern England provide students with opportunities to engage the culture in Britain and beyond. While at Harlaxton, students may participate in the popular Meet-a-Family program, athletics, and other activities.
