Alyssa VanBibber of Evansville Serves Community on Make A Difference Day

2011 Nov 1

On Saturday, October 22, Alyssa VanBibber of Evansville joined millions of Americans by volunteering for Make A Difference Day, the nation's largest day of community service.

VanBibber, who is majoring in Elementary Education, was among approximately 400 University of Evansville students who spent the day volunteering at 25 nonprofit organizations around Evansville. Tasks included beautification and landscaping, painting, and working with children, and sites included parks and community centers.

"By participating in Make A Difference Day, Alyssa VanBibber showed that giving back to the community is part of the culture at the University of Evansville," said Geoff Edwards, director of UE's Center for Student Engagement. "Last year, UE students contributed nearly 17,000 hours of service, and I'm proud of students such as Alyssa for their dedication to improving the community they call home during their college years."
